CAL Season 22 – The Training Season

by Kai Lih

CAL Season 22 is here! This month, we’ve taken a step back as we prepare for a ton of new features and upgrades in CAL. This season is going to be treated as a ‘test’ season as we roll out new features starting in August (Season 23).

CAL Season 22 is here! The new season is live and leaderboards have been active since July 1st. We’ve been hard at work trying to get more activity, better prizes, and more reasons to play, and our previous seasons are evidence of just that!

Last season we saw a huge spike in activity, with players in Division 1 and 2 fighting hard for the first-place prize. Thanks to our Sponsor, Dreamcore, who provided some really awesome prizes.

One of the selling points for CAL is the mandatory use of voice communications. That is why this season we are starting to make that more of a focus. While CAL suffered from a lack of activity problems just a few short months ago, that is no longer the case, and it’s time to refocus our efforts.

New Reasons to Subscribe to CAL

We often get asked, “what are the benefits of subscribing?” When the hubs were subscriber-only, this question was easier to answer. However, with the recent move to make queues free-to-play, we’ve started to understand that simply gaining access to the leaderboards isn’t as compelling a reason as all the other perks we love to speak about: dedicated admins, mandatory anti-cheat, 128-tick servers and of course, the prizes! So, read on to find out what we’re adding this season.

Increased Admin Support for Subscribers

Starting last season, we introduced a tiered system in admin support. One example of these changes you’ll notice is when it comes to auto-bans. All non-subscribers will no longer have auto-bans removed, with no exceptions. Subscribers will be able to remove auto-bans, but these will be subject to the cases listed clearly in our rules. Subscribers will also receive dedicated admin support through our 1-on-1 voice channel in Discord.

Streamer Codes

Among other things, we’ve partnered with some streamers to give away 50% discount coupons to CAL. Tune in to the following streamers on Facebook and Twitch and watch out for their unique referral codes and enjoy 50% off a 3-month subscription to the CSGO2ASIA League!

Most Matches MVP

The one player with the most wins, across ALL our hubs, irrespective of the division, will receive a US$100 bounty! You heard that right. You can come 4th or 7th on the leaderboard, but if you have the most wins in season 22, you will be rewarded!

New Features Coming Soon

To begin with, we’ve added some new features and made some upgrades to our main league portal. You will notice a new section for live matches, and our FAQ & Rules are now easier to access under the Support page.

Moreover, we’re preparing for a very exciting feature, the CAL BOT. The new CAL BOT will allow users to sync their Discord and FACEIT accounts. Upon entering a match, the BOT will move you to the correct voice channels for your team. This will prevent a lot of issues of people not using voice communication, as well as reduce the amount of disruption caused by problem players.

We know that this new feature will be a little disruptive in the short term, so stay tuned in our Hubs & Discord for the latest updates and announcements as we roll out the BOT.

Phasing out TeamSpeak

In line with this, we are migrating away from TeamSpeak. While we understand that many users will be upset by this change, it is the only way we can enforce the use of voice communication with our new technology. Many people complain about Discord causing fps drops, but there are plenty of fixes out there which we know work. Simply put, we will no longer host our TeamSpeak server starting in August, so it is time to migrate to Discord.
