The Yesuntumur “nin9” Gantulga led-squad also secured a spot at IEM Fall 2021 scheduled for September 28-October 10.

Renewal have qualified for IEM Fall 2021 after taking down domestic rivals Checkmate 3-0 in the DreamHack Open June Asia. In addition to that, Renewal secured the US$16,000 first-place prize and 60 ESL Pro Tour Points.

DreamHack Open June Asia served as Asia’s first and only DreamHack tournament in 2021. However, the tournament is significant since the champion will represent Asia at IEM Fall 2021. With the current state of Asian CS having shifted considerably over the last half-year, it would be fascinating to see the progress, especially with Mongolian teams emerge as Asia’s dominating force at the moment.

Gan-Erdene “dobu” Batbold maintaned a consistent form in the series, posting a 1.51 HLTV rating in every step of the way across both maps. Dobu beat his teammate Uuganbayar “neuz” Nyam-Otgon (1.45) to the individual award. The former in-game leader of the squad also led the tournament’s stats leaderboards in the K-D Diff and ADR categories.

The Grand Final – Renewal vs Checkmate – DreamHack Open June Asia

DreamHack Open June Asia Renewal Checkmate

The grand final match was a straight-forward affair, with Checkmate coming in from the lower bracket with a one map disadvantage. Both teams came out of the gates hot on the championship match, pulling out a tense back-and-forth in the first half on Dust2, Renewal’s map pick. However, Renewal’s relentless T side aggression when the team switched to the attacking side left Checkmate with little breathing space, eventually ending the map 16-7.

Renewal kicked off the map pick of Checkmate, Overpass, with a dominant fashion as the team’s defence was impenetrable for five straight rounds until it became all back-and-forth. The plot was identical to the previous map, with Checkmate losing all strength upon moving to the CT side. Renewal was able to run it down in the second half, winning 16-7 and clinching the series.
