TIGER takedown D13 and secure the only spot for the $15,000 event set to start in December
The Dreamhack Masters Winter 2020 Asia qualifiers played out over the weekend of Oct 16-18. It kicked off with the open qualifier which sadly saw only 53 teams join. Nonetheless, big names like Bren Esports and ZIGMA made an appearance. Yet, it was Paper Rex and Beyond who outlasted the rest to earn their spots in the closed qualifier. It was a breakthrough for Paper Rex, who will be happy with the result after adding Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto and Kumaresan ‘Tommy” Ramani a month ago.
Unfortunately, their success was short-lived. In the single-elimination, closed qualifier, Paper Rex matched up with TIGER. The Mongolian team also underwent roster changes recently after losing Erdenetsogt “erkaSt” Gantulga who is reported to be joining NG Esports. However, TIGER looked fierce, and after an overtime victory on Nuke (19-16), they went on to close out the opening match 16-6 on Train, winning the series 2-0.
Meanwhile, D13 faced off against Beyond. D13 also looked good, but the Thai squad Beyond did not give up easily, bringing every map to the very end. Ultimately, D13 prevailed to win the series 2-1.
The final saw TIGER take on D13 in another Mongolian derby final. After a strong start on Nuke, D13 had no answers. TIGER beat their fellow countrymen 16-5 on Mirage, earning their spot at the DreamHack Masters Winter 2020 – Asia. Fresh off a roster shuffle, TIGER continues to show why they are one of the best teams in Asia and the undisputed best in Mongolia.
The main event will take place from December 1st – 6th and will see four teams fight over the $15,000 prize pool. So far, TIGER is the only confirmed team. DreamHack has yet to announce the remaining three invited teams.
