ZOWIE DIVINA Women’s Asia CS:GO Championship 2019 Underway

by Nikhil Hathiramani

The first of it’s kind for female players in Asia, the tournament sees eight teams fight for glory and two spots at the DreamHack Showdown 2019.

It’s a slightly glum and rainy day here in Shanghai, but that hasn’t dampened the spirits of the eight teams competing here for the coveted top two spots.

Games began today at 10:00 (SGT) and feature a Swiss BO3 group stage format, giving all eight teams significant play-time regardless of their results. In the first match, the invited Malaysian team, Orange.Sphynx, took down Indonesia’s Celesté 2-0 (16-13 on Vertigo, 16-9 on Dust2).

At the time of writing, Mongolia’s XOP is gearing up to face qualified Malaysian squad, MBT.Baeters. The full schedule and details of day one can be seen below.

Schedule for day one at the ZOWIE DIVINA Women’s Asia CS:GO Championship:

All times in SGT (UTC+8)

10:00 – 🇲🇾 Orange.Sphynx vs. 🇮🇩 Celesté (Complete, 2-0)

13:20 – 🇲🇳 XOP vs. 🇲🇾 MBT.Baeters

16:40 – 🇸🇬 Phoenix vs. 🇨🇳 ZLYPW

20:00 – 🇵🇭 ArkAngel vs. 🇨🇳 7PM

The CS:GO event is an initiative to push female esports in the region and will double up to serve as the Asian qualifier for the DreamHack Showdown happening later this year. CSGO2ASIA was informed that all teams have already been granted visas to Spain in case they qualify – good news for the players, as this is a consistent logistical pain point especially for this region.

While there is no prize money for this event, the top two teams will earn their spot to Valencia, Spain and their chance earn part of the largest ever prize pool in a female CS:GO event courtesy of DreamHack.

CSGO2ASIA founder and chief editor Nikhil “nikh” Hathiramani is here in Shanghai to cover the event. Stay tuned to our Twitter and Instagram for the latest updates and be sure to watch the games on the official Twitch stream here.
