The Asian Pro League enters its 10th Season – difficulties in division two mean we have to lower the prize pool for now.
Here we are, almost a year in with the APL! As we enter Season 10 we look for answers to the dwindling numbers in division two and work on big changes in the near future.
Ladders are now open as of July 1st, 2019 at 00:00 (SGT), and players from the Invite only Pro Division, Division 1 and Division 2 will continue to duke it out for their share of the monthly prize pool. Below is a summary of the changes, winners of Season 9 and more.
A Reminder To Use Our Discount Codes
In case you are unaware, there are two discount codes that are available for use across the Asian Pro League at any given time. Both these codes apply only to the ‘monthly’ subscription plan and can be redeemed at any time, so use them wisely!

A quiet start to Summer
At the start of season 7 we saw a drastic increase in activity for division one, however, division two suffered a lower match count, a problem that persisted.
To help the situation, we opened Division two as a free-to-play hub for the entirety of season 8. While this experiment helped drastically increase activity, this did not translate into a long-term solution for Division two as more problems were created than solved. While we expected this as a potential outcome, it, of course, isn’t favourable.
Many users experienced more toxicity, bad communication in the game as well as consistent grievers and queue bans. It should be clear by now, a paywall helps to increase the quality of players within the APL (in terms of behavior, not skill). This is significantly important for division two, where player skill isn’t the focus, but rather, a clean and toxic free playing environment.
Big Changes up Ahead
The start of June saw a decrease in activity across all our Hubs. There were many reasons for this – but the one big one has to do with our staff’s level of commitment. Another prominent reason is the sudden decrease in early stage long term subscriptions expiring, as well as the switch back for division two to subs only.
As we approach the one year anniversary for the APL we move forward with a tremendous amount of learnings. It is apparent that things need to drastically change – from the allocation of resources, prizes, server allocation, admin team as well as the overall structure of the league.
