ARAVT picked up the sole ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Festival spot up for grabs in the Asia qualifier.

ARAVT became on Sunday the team to qualify for the main event of ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Festival 2021 after defeating China’s NSN Gaming 2-0 in the grand final. The Mongolian side join the likes of Team NKT, Checkmate, TYLOO, and CatEvil on the list of participants for the event, which will take place from January 15-16 and will have ~US$31,000 (CN¥200,000) on offer.

The Asia qualifier featured a total of 54 teams, with the likes of NSN Gaming, Do Not Disturb La, and Moon Esports being some of the most notable ones vying for a spot in the event.

The Mongolian squad progressed through by knocking five teams out of the tournament on their way to victory: Strakboy, ThroNzor, HOMBOO, Orcool, and ultimately NSN Gaming. Despite being on the verge of elimination multiple times against Strakboy (16-14) and Orcool (2-1), ARAVT were able to turn the tide in their favor in the closing moments. On the other side of the bracket, NSN Gaming notably defeated Do Not Disturb La in the semi-finals. It set up a clash for a ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND spot between China and Mongolia in the grand final of the Asia qualifier.

The grand final kicked off on Nuke –  a map that ARAVT had previously lost in the playoffs – as a one-sided affair, with the Mongolian side jumping out to a blazing 12-3 lead on the attacking side. With NSN Gaming switching to a more unfavorable T side after the half, they were unable to purported high-stakes duel, as ARAVT wasted no time responding and secured the 16-5 map victory.

The series then moved to Vertigo. Both teams traded a back-and-forth control in the map for the whole time until NSN Gaming claimed the 30th round to secure overtime, denying ARAVT the chance to advance quickly. The tight battle continued. NSN Gaming, however, couldn’t accomplish much on the thin ice after taking the first OT round, as ARAVT did not drop a single round after that, ending the map in their favor 19-16 and the series 2-0.

ARAVT was fueled by Unudelger “controlez” Baasanjargal, who led the tournament with a 1.52 rating across eight maps played. He deserves special mention for his outstanding performance across the tournament, particularly the series.
