ESL Pro League Season 12: Asia Qualifier – Viewer’s Guide

by Nigel Li

Seven of Asia’s top teams will be vying to qualify for the ESL Pro League Season 12.

After the cancellation of the ESL Pro League Season 11, the league’s next installment comes with its 12th season this month. The ESL Pro League Season 12: Asia Qualifier will begin on the 19th of June ending on the 21st of June. Teams will compete for a single spot at ESL Pro League Season 12 Finals which is still set to be played offline, although the location is yet to be determined.

With travel restrictions and physical limitations imposed by the global pandemic, the ESL Pro League Season 12 – Asia Qualifier will once again take place online. While the last season combined Asia and Oceania teams into one qualifier, Season 12 sees them separated. Additionally, the qualifier will take place over the course of just a few days, instead of the usual regular season.

It will be a double-elimination bracket format for the playoffs, with all matches, excluding the grand final, as best-of-three. The grand final will be best-of-five.

Empty Slot Drama

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be Asian Counter-Strike without some drama. The teams were decided by the slots confirmed in Season 10. One of which was MVP PK. However, the Koreans, who had already had a shaky year in 2019, decided to disband and pursue VALORANT. Therefore, MVP PK left a spot open. Some called for TIGER to fill the now empty slot. However, ESL decided against doing so, instead opting to play the qualifier with 7 teams and give TYLOO a walkover in round one.
